Decks and Stair Systems

We at Bayside Joinery Co. have taken our decks and stair systems to the next level with our signature mortise and tenon joinery. This method of interlocking components together in addition to heavy-duty screws ensures a lifetime of enjoyable summer parties, sunset dinners, and relaxing on your solid Bayside Joinery deck.

Completed Projects

“Elder 2” - Moon, VA

Ricky Elder Jr. is the father of the client shown above. After buying a home on the bay just north of his son’s property in Bavon, he had us remodel his sunroom and add a wrap-around deck to the front and side of the house.

“Moon Multi- Level” - York, VA

The Moon Deck was a unique topographical challenge that evolved into a multi-level design which flows wonderfully around the backyard of this split-level home. The 24’ x 16’ lower deck is spacious enough to host a summer BBQ, while 34’ x 12’ upper deck boasts scenic views of the descending geography down to a winding creek. The Moons were highly complimentary of this project and love watching the birds feed on the bird feeders which sit 4’ out from their new deck.

“Your work is unsurpassed and met all of our expectations and hopes. We hope you haven’t spoiled us when it comes to having other work done around the house. You have set a high standard!”

“Elder Double Decker” - Bavon, VA

This “Double-Decker” project was featured on HGTV’s Beachfront Bargain Hunt: Renovation. We helped the Elder family turn a hazardous, crumbling deck into the focal point of their home. Featuring a waterproof SIPs upper deck and a screened-in porch below, this deck will surely provide fantastic views of the lower Chesapeake bay for years to come.

“Solari” - Gwynn, VA

The Solari project provided some of the best views we have had the pleasure of seeing on a daily basis. Our added second-level deck featured a waterproof system which allows gorgeous views of the Chesapeake Bay from above and a dry, bug-free haven in the screened porch below. The Screen-Eze screen is clean, tight, and very durable. No more saggy screens!

The Bayside Joinery Difference

Like all of our woodwork at Bayside Joinery, we build our decks to last. The most notable difference between our competitor's decks and ours is our mastery of mortise and tenon joinery, which is used heavily throughout our deck systems. Instead of relying on screws and fasteners to hold our members together, each member is routed out to accept its adjoining piece.

A great compliment to our unique techniques is our unique method of building shop-built components in our shop and delivering them to the site to be installed. For instance, small stair landings (above, right) are completely fabricated in our controlled shop environment to ensure the ultimate in quality control and accuracy.

Stair Systems

Another unique aspect of a Bayside Joinery deck is our system of building stairs. A fully-housed thru-mortise tread projects through the stringers for maximum strength. These treads use fasteners only to keep the wood from shifting during the inevitable drying process. Otherwise, the stairs are completely self-supporting.
